Digital Guyana

…and now, the weather

Posted on: July 21, 2009

At the recruitment day for this project, I joked that one of my reasons for wanting to come to Guyana was the chance of some sunshine this summer.

My smile was wiped from my face when I checked the weather forecast in Georgetown and saw this:

Georgetown weather

Needless to say I wasn’t too impressed. The explanation for all those dark clouds and forks of lightning is that Guyana has a rainy season, although it’s meant to finish around the end of June.

In fact, we are getting bucketloads of sun here (note to family – don’t worry, we are using sunblock) but there also tends to be a downpour at around 9am – and we’re talking big gobs of rain, none of yer drizzle. The sun dries things out pretty quickly and we’re left with a pretty high level of humidity. I imagine this is all doing wonders for the plants.

Of course, we’re all too busy working in the classroom to be working on our tans.
